Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC) is a national nonprofit organization that is creating a world that understands there is more than one way to breast cancer. The organization provides a community of support and trusted information including on-demand emotional, practical, and evidence-based content that is meaningful to those who are newly diagnosed, in treatment, post-treatment, and living with metastatic disease.
What began in 1990 as an all-volunteer effort to provide a safe space where women could get accurate and easy-to-understand breast cancer information from medical experts and connect with each other has grown into a nationwide organization, known for its empowering approach to providing psychosocial resources that help address disparities in cancer care. Throughout its history, LBBC has continually developed innovative, responsive programs and partnerships to support those dealing with a breast cancer diagnosis, their caregivers, and their families and children.
Fairmount has been a thought partner and advisor to LBBC since its earliest years, helping it to chart a course for the future through strategic planning, expansion efforts, talent development, and funding resources. Our breadth of experience and expertise has allowed LBBC to strategically engage us at key points in its organizational development and where our support is needed most, whether defining strategy, finding and helping to secure funding to scale and grow, or ensuring the right staff and volunteer leadership is in place and prepared to propel its success.
Our more recent work with LBBC has included leading the successful search for its new Senior Vice President, Strategy, and Mission, developing a new training presentation as an evergreen resource to educate the Board of Directors on its governance roles and responsibilities, and providing strategy guidance, project management, and grantwriting and submission support for federal and global funding opportunities. For each engagement, Fairmount leans into our collective understanding of LBBC made possible through our long-time partnership, and our combined expert focus on fundraising, strategy, and leadership development, to benefit every project.
Fairmount’s history of support has fueled LBBC’s evolution from a vision and a regional resource to a highly respected and visible national leader, touching the lives of more than 600,000 people living with breast cancer annually. Our fundraising support through three successive multi-year grant rounds from the Centers for Disease Control has leveraged more than $10M in funding for younger women and metastatic patients impacted by breast cancer, bringing new partnerships, resources, and hope for people in the longterm fight against this disease.
